A Silk Road Web Quest

By caravan you will journey 7,000 miles from Changan to Kashgar. Your travel will take you from cities and villages, into the plains, steppes, forests and deserts of Asia.  You will follow rivers, climb mountains and hills, explore caves and passes along the Silk Road. Here you will follow in the footsteps of Marco Polo, and countless others as they traded their goods and services, fought wars, spread religions, art, ideas, languages, and cultures.

Your Job
As a trade you will design a guide for a journey along the Silk Road. You will advise travelers about the dangers of your journey.
The Following must be included:
•An introduction:  Explain why it is worth taking the trip
•Advice and Information:  Explain how to prepare for the trip, what to bring, how to trade, and what to expect on the journey. The report sould include the following:

  1. Transportation, food, supplies, weather, geography, clothing.
  2. Information about people: ethnic groups, traditions, architecture, religion
  3. Also include information about  products, ideas, inventions, traditions and culture.
  4. Write a description of the Silk Road as a place.
  5. Finally draw map of the Silk Road.

Your written report may be in the form of a brochure, an essay, a newspaper report, a journal or a PowerPoint. 

The trip will last three months. What time of year will you leave? What types of food will you take? Are there bandits? Do you need guides? Will you need money. Besides silk, what other inventions, goods, ideas were exchanged on this trade route?
